1. Anthropic
Anthropic (co-founded by former OpenAI employees) is making a dramatic move. In November 2025 the company announced it will invest $50 billion in American AI infrastructure: building custom data centres in Texas and New York, in partnership with Fluidstack.
Key details:
The sites will be “custom built … with a focus on maximizing efficiency for our workloads.”
They expect ~800 permanent jobs and ~2,400 construction jobs in the first phase.
The build-out will come online through 2026.
The partnership with Fluidstack enables “multi-gigawatt” power delivery for AI workloads.
What this signals: Anthropic wants to significantly scale its compute capacity (for its Claude family of models) and gain more control over its infrastructure rather than only depending on external cloud. They’re also contributing to U.S. tech-sovereignty arguments by building domestically.
From a strategic point of view, this is both a bet on AI demand (that enterprises will need ever more compute) and a bet that owning infrastructure gives advantage (cost, latency, control).

2. Microsoft
Microsoft is deeply embedded in the AI infrastructure race. According to multiple sources:
Microsoft expects to spend ~$80 billion in fiscal 2025 on data-centers designed to handle AI workloads.
More than half of that will be in the U.S. (Brad Smith, VP-Chair, Microsoft, blog post)
Microsoft has built what it calls its “world’s most powerful AI datacenter” in Wisconsin (Mount Pleasant) — part of its “Fairwater” campus.
The Wisconsin site: a 315-acre campus, 1.4 million+ sq ft facility, with hundreds of thousands of Nvidia GPUs, advanced liquid cooling, renewable energy adjuncts.
Why Microsoft matters: As one of the largest cloud providers (Azure) and a key partner for many companies, when Microsoft builds big AI infrastructure it both supports its own AI ambitions and supplies others. Also, Microsoft’s scale makes it a bellwether for how large AI infrastructure build-out will go.
Strategic nuance: For Microsoft, infrastructure is part of a broader AI platform strategy (cloud + apps + services). It isn’t only about raw compute but about enabling its ecosystem.
3. Meta Platforms
Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook) also sees AI infrastructure as central.
Meta announced it will invest $600 billion in U.S. infrastructure and jobs over the next few years, including AI data centres.
The company emphasizes that its AI data-centers contribute not only to scale but to supporting “next generation of AI products” and “personal superintelligence” objectives.
Example: Meta’s Altoona, Iowa campus spans 5 million+ sq ft and supports large-scale AI training operations.
Why this matters: Meta is less vendor of cloud than purely a user/owner of infrastructure for its own models & services (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp). Its investment underscores that owning compute is not just for cloud providers but for large content/platform businesses as they transition to AI-first models.
Risk/consideration: With such large investments, Meta also bets heavily that the payoff (in monetization or superior product advantage) will follow.
4. Nvidia
Nvidia plays a dual role: it supplies the chips and hardware that power AI infrastructure, and also is actively participating in infrastructure projects itself.
Nvidia announced it is collaborating with U.S. national labs and major companies to build America’s AI infrastructure via its “Omniverse DSX” platform and hyperscale AI factory blueprint.
The company will invest in custom data centre and client products, and has committed ~$5 billion to Intel (stock purchase) for custom data centre/cpu integration.
Nvidia also reportedly will invest up to $100 billion in a partnership with OpenAI to build tens of gigawatts of AI data-centers.
Why Nvidia matters: Without access to next-generation GPUs (and infrastructure optimised for them), the compute arms-race can’t proceed. Nvidia is the chipset king (for now) and as such its moves both reflect and drive the infrastructure build-out.
From a strategic perspective: Nvidia’s involvement indicates that the loop (chips → hardware → data centres → AI models) is integrated: the infrastructure build is not simply “rent more cloud”, but “design entire stacks”.
5. Google
Google LLC (and its cloud division) is less highlighted in our specific subject of Texas/New York data-centres in this post, but it is deeply involved in AI infrastructure globally and in the U.S. market.
One overview noted that Google (alongside Meta, Microsoft) will spend huge sums on AI data-centres: “…the investment plans mean Google, Meta, Microsoft and Amazon are set to spend nearly $370 billion this year on construction of data-centers…”
Google is working with U.S. government labs and supply-chain partners to build advanced AI infrastructure. (Via Nvidia etc.)
We’ll keep Google in view as part of the big-tech cluster racing for AI compute capacity, even if we focus less on individual dollars in TX/NY for Google in this piece.
6. Fluidstack
Fluidstack is a lesser-known but strategically important partner in infrastructure build-out. It has been selected by Anthropic for their U.S. data-centre build-out.
Fluidstack provides high-performance cloud infrastructure and AI GPU cluster delivery capabilities; Anthropic said they selected it “for its ability to move with exceptional agility, enabling rapid delivery of gigawatts of power.”
Why include Fluidstack: It signals that beyond the big names, specialised infrastructure firms (neocloud, GPU-cluster delivery, power/efficiency optimisation) are part of the ecosystem. The infrastructure gold rush isn’t just the hyperscale giants; supporting firms are critical.

Regional focus: Texas & New York
While AI infrastructure investments are nationwide, two U.S. states/regions are especially worth noting: Texas and New York.
Texas
Texas has emerged as a key location for data-centre build-out for AI. According to Anthropic, their initial data centres in the U.S. will be in Texas and New York.
The attraction: Texas offers large tracts of relatively cheaper land, favourable business/regulatory climate, proximity to power grids and fibre, and a history of infrastructure build-out (e.g., energy, data-centres).
Many companies (including Microsoft, Google, others) are developing campuses in Texas. For example, Nvidia’s U.S. manufacturing / AI-supercomputer production is reportedly under construction in Houston/Dallas.
Implications: A massive build-out in Texas means jobs (construction, operations), regional economic uplift, but also significant challenges (power supply, grid load, cooling, environmental concerns, workforce).
Important to watch: local regulation, energy sourcing (renewables vs fossil), grid upgrade costs, local workforce training.
New York
New York is the second site announced for Anthropic’s U.S. data-centre build-out.
New York offers access to major transport/logistics, fibre-network interconnectivity, financial-services proximity (many AI enterprise customers are in NY/NJ/NYC corridor), and state/local incentives for tech infrastructure.
By focusing on both Texas and New York, companies are balancing cost / scale (Texas) and strategic / connectivity / enterprise-customer access (New York).

What the infrastructure build really looks like
What goes into one of these next-gen AI data-centres? Here are some of the elements we’re seeing in announcements or plans:
Gigawatt-scale power: These facilities consume massive electricity — multi-hundreds of megawatts, sometimes gigawatts. For example, Anthropic’s partner Fluidstack will deliver “multi-gigawatt” capacity.
Advanced cooling: Because high-density GPU racks generate enormous heat, facilities are using liquid cooling, innovative airflow, and even outside-air cooling when climate permits. Microsoft’s Wisconsin Fairwater campus uses closed-loop liquid cooling.
High-density GPUs / hardware stacks: Hundreds of thousands of GPUs, high-speed interconnect, custom architecture to support large-scale model training and inference. Nvidia’s “Omniverse DSX” blueprint references this.
Power / grid / renewables integration: Because of power draw and sustainability concerns, many data centres include on-site solar, wind, battery storage, or microgrid integration. For example Microsoft’s campus mentions a 250 MW solar project.
Real-estate footprint + connectivity: Large campuses (many acres, millions of square feet), proximity to fibre networks, minimal latency to endpoints or other data/switching hubs.
Build-out timeline & job creation: Construction jobs (thousands), long-term operations jobs (hundreds to thousands), spin-off economic activity (suppliers, local services). Anthropic noted ~2,400 construction jobs + 800 permanent jobs for its first phase.
Custom design & optimisation: Facilities are often “purpose-built” for the workload, instead of retrofitting existing data centres. E.g., Anthropic said “custom built … for our workloads.”
In short: we are looking at facilities more akin to “AI factories” than conventional cloud data-centers.

The energy consumption of these facilities is large. Some estimates: multi-gigawatt capacity, equivalent to tens or hundreds of thousands of homes. For example: in one context, OpenAI’s data-centre build-out was described as “enough to power 25 million U.S. homes”.
This raises questions: how will the grid cope? How much renewable vs fossil will be involved? What is the water usage, land usage?
Some companies already mention sustainability measures (liquid cooling, solar/wind integration). But there remain concerns about local infrastructure, grid stress, environmental regulation, community impact.
Supply chain & chip demand
The infrastructure build-out drives massive demand for GPUs, specialised hardware, network switches, cooling systems, power conversion equipment.
This means companies like Nvidia benefit, but also the broader hardware & infrastructure supply chain sees growth (cooling equipment, data-centre builders, construction firms, power equipment).
The “bottlenecks” in AI innovation may increasingly be hardware and infrastructure, not just algorithmic.

For companies building infrastructure, the question is: how will they recoup the investment?
